Newton Special Athletes

The Newton Parks and Recreation Department has offered exciting community-based therapeutic recreation programs to residents with disabilities since 1978. Programs are offered to provide and encourage physical, social, emotional and intellectual development. This year round program strives to meet the individuals needs and expand the independence of our participants through providing high quality recreation programming.

In 1991 the parents of many of our athletes formed the Newton Area Corporation for the Benefit of Special Needs Athletes, Inc. It is a 501 (c)(3) Non-profit organization that raises funds to support the Newton Special Athletes program. The funds raised through this non-profit are used to purchase uniforms and equipment, cover travel and lodging expenses as well as a gift to all of our athletes at the
Annual Awards Ceremony. The parents committee meets several times per year to help guide recreational programming, plan fundraisers and decide how funds should be allocated. We are always looking for new members to join the parents committee and help us shape the future of this program.

Come join us!

The benefits to athletes, their families, and our volunteers are endless.
