The Larry McCarthy Award for Effort
This is the coaches award for the athletes demonstration a consistent effort – week to week – at track training sessions held on Tuesday evenings. For many years coach Larry was an active member of the coaching team. Each week he would work out with an athlete or two and spend the evening running with them offering suggestions and encouragement. Athletes became more confident as a result of Larry’s efforts eventually increasing their stamina and enjoying a better quality of health both on and off the track.

This award is intended to recognize the athlete who comes to the track training sessions weekly and gives 100% effort. Not necessarily the one who runs the fastest or does the most laps but rather the athlete who shows the greatest effort to achieve his or her maximum potential. The recipient is chosen by a consensus of the track coaches taken just prior to the annual celebration and presented at the Awards Ceremony in memory of a dedicated and caring coach. It is our hope that this recognition will motivate people to give their best effort.
